Unblogged Bits (Mon. 14-Feb-11 2230)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Replacing one taxpayer-financed health plan with another – Hypocrisy is such an ugly term …
  2. What Egypt Teaches Us About Iraq: Arabs Can Do Democracy Without Invasion – Well, we shouldn’t be premature in terms of a pan-Arab movement. And it’s worth remembering how effective democratic movements across the Americas were (and weren’t). But it’s certainly heartening.
  3. House Republicans Cut Funding That Protects Us From Nuclear Terrorism – Let them eat yellowcake!
  4. Stock Photo Clichés – These just make me laugh and laugh … albeit not alone with a fruit salad.
  5. ‘Leaving Islam?’ Bus Ad Still In Limbo in Detroit – I think it’s a bit more than just a “we support you if you’re looking for another path” kind of an add (as the implications are that the reader is leaving Islam because of threatening circumstances). My big question is how some of the folks that are so keen to see it posted would feel if it were analogously anti-Christian.
  6. Conservative Group Kicks Ron Paul Off Advisory Committee For Opposing War; Says Paul “Borders On Treason” – Gee, another reason to kinda like Ron (not Rand) Paul.
  7. Walmart Employees Fired For Stopping Armed Robber – Um … that just seems kinda crazy. I can see having the policy both to remove a certain measure of liability, or to provide leverage if an employee does something really stupid that endangers those around him. But applying it in some zany Zero Tolerance fashion is goofy.
  8. ImageShack serves dire warnings to victims of pharmaceutical spams – Nice!
  9. 414 – Love is double-blind | Luke Surl Comics – Many thanks to George for forwarding this, as I did, in fact, print it out and use it as a Valentine’s Day card for Margie … she loved it, as did all her cohorts at the office.
