Because this is, of course, exactly the sort of thing you saw Jesus (and Lincoln) doing, right?
Apparently (according to Capitol Police), this Muslim gent comes by once every couple of weeks to pray in front of the White House. Quiet, unassuming — for all anyone can tell, he’s wishing that Allah flings a bolt of lightning, or that Allah blesses the man in the Oval Office.
Alas, today he happened to run into some “SHARIA LAW IS OUT TO EAT OUR CHILDREN’S HEADS!!!!” Christianist protesters, who proceeded to do everything from pelt the ground in front of him with little crosses (!), to shout at him, to scream about the love of the Holy Spirit, to break into a chant of “Je-sus! Je-sus! Je-sus!”
Crikey.
And how anyone, with a straight face can ask “how can anyone believe in a God that tells you to kill people who believe in a different God” is beyond me. Except that, I’m sure, the yahoo has zero knowledge of the history of Christianity, or Europe.
And off on the other coast, whence my lovely in-laws live, we have a meeting of a Muslim charity group having an event in Orange County to raise money for women’s shelters, the homeless, and the hungry. Enter the anti-Islamic protesters, abetted by local politicians, shouting for all the Muslims to “go home” (regardless, I guess, of where they were born).
To be fair, the people shouting at women and children and men were not just ostensible Christians, but included anti-Islamic Jews and various Tea Partiers. All of whom seemed to be waving American flags and alternating between obscenities, slurs, chants of “U-S-A” and chants of “Go home!”
Meanwhile, Jesus (and Adams and Jefferson and Madison and Washington and Lincoln) wept.
Real Life Dialog with the In-Laws:
“Hey, there’s one of your councilpeople.”
“Is it Her?”
“Deborah Pauly?”
“She’s an idiot.”
Later, after I play her part of the video:
“She is a Class A-1 Idiot. No, no, she has no class.”
(Note: Of course I am aware of the vitriolic, as well as idiotic, rhetoric of, say, anti-American protesters in some Islamic countries. So what? Aren’t “we” claiming to be better than “them”?)
