Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Flickr Not Dead, But Losing The Soul Of Photo Sharing – This bugs the hell out of me — it’s a shame Google isn’t dropping a billion or two on buying Flickr.
- Shariah foes seize on Perry’s ties to Muslims – War Room – Salon.com – It will be interesting to see how Perry handles this. He could get a lot of mileage from moderate voters if he stands up for what he’s done — but if he thinks it’s interfering with the fringe-Right base, will he instead disavow these past relationships?
- Romney Rejects Buffett’s Call To Tax The Rich, Falsely Claims It Would Hurt Small Businesses | ThinkProgress
- THE TRUTH ABOUT THE GOOGLE-MOTOROLA DEAL: It Could End Up Being A Disaster – Actually, Motorola has been doing decently in the world of both Android handsets and the new Xoom pad. Seems to me that Google’s best tactic here is to keep Moto at semi-arm’s length to calm Samsung and HTC, and to keep from suffering from corporate culture shock, but start leveraging the relationship over time to drive improvements in the whole Android market.
- “We stopped dreaming.” A mini-rant from Neil deGrasse Tyson. – When most people are focused only on their next paycheck — or on next quarter’s earning statement, or the next congressional election … then there’s no room for big dreams.
- Report: Pakistan gave China access to downed US helicopter – Is anybody really surprised? Pakistan and the ISI play everyone (and themselves), every chance they get.
- Rick Perry: “I will repeal health care reform” – “Health care reform was the biggest achievement of his administration. He should act like it. Every time a Republican talks about repealing health care reform, the White House should detail exactly what it is that the Rs are talking about repealing.”
- Do Electronic Devices Really Need to Be Turned Off During Takeoff and Landing? [Ask Lifehacker] – Esp. given the intermittent and low power usage of a Kindle, I simply don’t buy it.
- Google Buys Motorola Mobility For $12.5B, Says “Android Will Stay Open” – Ah. Patent portfolio. It all makes (sad) sense now.
- Body type: Form vs function – Another reason I’ve always enjoyed those World’s Strongest Man competitions — it’s about strength, not about comic book-style body sculpting.
- Perry Proposes Economically Impossible State Takeover Of Social Security | ThinkProgress – The man who would be President.
- Marvel’s Runaways Movie On Ice Until After The Avengers – Done right, “Runaways” would be awesome.
- Astronaut Photographs Perseid Meteor… From Space : Discovery News – Shiny!
- Freedom fries redux – “So, 2012 could become a battle between secession and health care. And, the traditional media and pundits will consider that a legitimate debate.” I don’t know whether to roll my eyes or weep.
- Families of London Rioters to Be Evicted, and Denied Welfare – So even if we accept that the folks involved and guilty as sin and really naughty and anti-social … what does this actually accomplish? All the “well, they should have thought of that before” and “we need robust punishment” is still leaving you with folks out on the streets. What are they to do next, and do you think this will really improve and make safer the society around them?

And why shouldn’t they keep China happy. Perhaps Pakistan doesn’t have allies, just interests
Pakistan is a bit more blatant than most in pursuing their interests. That said, were I them, I would certainly be looking for ways to keep China happy.
