Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- It’s a Bad Time to Be a Clear Channel DJ – Utterly no surprise here. Clear Channel has already homogenized radio music across the nation, so the idea of local / regional DJs is merely an additional cost item that they’ll be more than happy to be quit of.
- Florida corporate giveaways has not produced promised jobs – Yeah, there’s stunning news. Now, to be fair, the state couldn’t hire someone for $10K … but it does cause one to wonder how else that $1.7bn could have been spent to generate jobs.
- Missed Opportunity: Democrats’ New Faith Outreach Director Opposes Marriage Equality | Believe Out Loud
- Shari’ah ≠ Islamic Law: Misunderstanding the Role of Islam in Libya | Religion Dispatches – While I’m much happier with an explicitly secular state, appealing to the local religious tradition can mean a variety of things, from a theocracy to a one-true-faith tyranny of the majority, to something much more tolerant. - 14 Punctuation Marks That You Never Knew Existed – I knew most of these …
- Disney Lobbies to Prevent Las Vegas Style Gambling in Florida, Why Are People Shocked? | The Disney Blog – Not at all surprising. It’s competition, and relatively easy to deploy competition at that.
- As Oil Companies Announce $24B in Profits, Rep. Stearns Says, “When Somebody Is Successful Then You Give Them Subsidies” – Dolt.
- Republican Strategist: Science Should Be Put to a Popularity Vote – (Rolls eyes.)
- Android Orphans: Visualizing a Sad History of Support – The main issue here seems to be that Android phone makers try to distinguish themselves by adding on an additional layer of user interface cruft (e.g., HTC’s “Sense”) that makes it more difficult (even were they willing) to upgrade to newer OS versions. I’ve never felt particularly constrained to date on my phone — but the HTC Incredible is doing pretty well on this table here. Something to consider next time around, though.
- NOAA Bombshell: Human-Caused Climate Change Already a Major Factor in More Frequent Mediterranean Droughts – I’m sure that, in quick and inspiring response, the House GOP will vote to slash funding for NOAA.
