Every sperm is sacred

So if a religiously affiliated institution (not a church, mind you — though I have my questions about that, too) were to require employees to sign a contract saying that they would not use any of their salary to purchase contraception, would that be legal? Then why give them a "conscience" out in provision of insurance services for contraception?

Unfortunately, it will be no surprise if Obama, with an eye toward next year's election, agrees to the exemption in order to attract/retain the Catholic vote (whether or not the US Bishops actually represent the opinions of American Catholics on the matter or not). #ddtb

  1. If every sperm is sacred, then women are an assembly line. I am not a member of the Quiverful movement, and would never choose to be. It’s a good way to an early death for mothers and a surfeit of widowers looking for a mother for their children. Gee, do you get ousted from that movement if it turns out you can’t conceive, for whatever reason?

I’ve written the White House, on their online form, a strongly-worded letter citing First Amendment clauses wrt this potential exemption.

No single religious body must ever, and shall never, speak for the conscience or beliefs of all Americans, as long as I, and others who believe in the 1st Amendment, am able to vote.

    1. @Marina – Well, properly, if you’re not interested in being a baby assembly line, then you should get thee to a nunnary. At least I’m sure that’s what some would propose as the only holy alternative.

  2. Hamlet’s Nunnery was a brothel. If it’s not a cloistered and silent convent, I might manage, except for that little matter of my religion not being theirs.

The Vatican had asked a few years ago, of some retired convent nuns, to be guinea pigs in AIDS vaccines studies. Maybe as controls, but it would be a little difficult to see how: no sexual activity, most like, of any orientation, likely no injectible street drugs–I guess they’d be a null class, to see how the vaccine or cure works, once they’ve become HIV+.
