There's been a significant rise over the last decade of "fact-checking" organizations and newspaper columns, etc. I consider this, largely, a very good thing, and they are often convenient sources of corrective information regarding the claims of the politicians, punditry, and the partisan media.
That said, while Mark Twain may have spoken of "lies, damn lies, and statistics," a fourth category he might have added would be Professional Experts Who Are Asked For Their Unbiased Opinions On Matters They Claim Impartial Expertise In. Because they too often aren't one or more of those adjectives … #ddtb
