Walking Pneumonia – Update

(Still whistling that stupid song under my breath. Or maybe that's my lungs rattling.)

My coughing has gotten a lot better, going from often gut-wrenching to more of a general annoyance. I'm sleeping well at night (though tonight I'm going to give it a stab without Nyquil). But I'm still generally fatigued, short of breath after brief exertions, and generally feeling like I'm not firing on all cylinders.

I've finished up my antibiotic regimen as of last night. This particular antibiotic will continue to work for the next five days, so that fact that I'm not well yet isn't significant … yet.

So overall I'm improved, but not well yet by any means. I'm basically making it through the day, then crashing in the evening, but that's covered under trying to "take it easy."

Onward and upward! #ddtb

  1. When I had pneumonia at 11, I was sick for ten days (4.5 of which I was in the hospital), was off from school the next week, had two weeks on Christmas break off and was still on no hard physical activities (like running around at recess) for another week. I lost nearly 20 lbs (wouldn’t that be great now) and took another 10 days just be able to run around without weezing. Though I know you weren’t quite that sick, I would guess you’ve got at least another week of sub par energy and stamina.
Gives you a sense of how hard folks with CPD, asthma and cystic fibrosis have to work to get through every day.

    1. @Mary – indeed. Walking Pneumonia is distinctly less severe than the, um, non-walking kind that sends you to the hospital and the like. It does have that whole lung/fluid thing, which leads to the shortness of breath, rattling, fatigue … and I have a great deal of appreciation for folks with more permanent conditions of the sort.

  2. Hmm. Wonder if this is what’s going through our house and my dance leader’s house. I didn’t get any fever/chills, but you have described my coughs uncannily well. Did you have a tendency to end the cough on a higher note than usual? At the end of a cough, mine go into a higher octave than usual, sounding like air being forced through a narrow orifice. My lungs were clear when I saw the dr., too.

Edna was getting a UTI, so she took ABs, and is fine. Me, I thought it was my allergies, given the pollen count. I don’t know about you, but sleeping like a Mimbari is not very restful, but if my head is much lower, the coughs hang around longer when I’m trying to sleep.
