Planting Hemp

And I mean real hemp, for industrial use, not a nickname for marijuana (to which it is related). Hemp used to be a major industrial crop in this country, grown by presidents and non-presidents. Then politics, "reefer madness" scare tactics, and competitors got its growth outlawed on a federal level. Now Colorado, among others, is looking to bring it back.

Springfield, Colo., farmer Ryan Loflin on Monday planted the nation's first industrial hemp crop in almost 60 years. Loflin's plans to grow hemp already have been chronicled, and Monday's planting attracted the attention of more media in southeastern Colorado and a documentary film crew.

I feel bad for all the #vets who are facing foreclosure due to the #Trump regime arbitrarily yoinking a VA debt program without replacing it (or even sharing if they *will* replace it).

On the other hand, I wonder how many of those vets voted for the regime, on the assumption that it would be only layabout libs who suffered under the new austerity.

Sad, though not surprised, to see #NaNoWriMo .org shutting down. They helped me in doing a lot of the #writing I've done. While they made some serious missteps in recent years, I'll remember their efforts before that with fondness.

I Am Old Enough To Remember ... when much of the security failure of 9/11 was blamed on the patchwork of incompetent privately-owned companies doing #AirportSecurity , where profit motive incented hiring the lowest-cost workers, rules were different from airport to airport, and nobody had responsibility or accountability.

Not that the #TSA is not without fault, but the idea that if we just go with cut-rate rent-a-cops we can be safe *and* save money is truly laughable.

Even more amusing that the 2019 #portrait of #Trump in the #Colorado Capitol rotunda which he dislikes so and blamed as an intentional insult by the "leftist" 🙄 governor of our state, was in fact commissioned and funds raised for it by Colorado #Republicans, led by #GOP state representatives.

If one charitably assumes #Trump / #Musk are trying to run #government like a business (a doltish idea, but anyway), then it's clearly the business role of private equity partners, stripping things down, raiding the assets, destroying the good will, sacking the staff, and leaving behind the husk once there's nothing of value left... except maybe the brand, which they can sell to some another firm.

Granted it is not an attractive or even accurate painting, a normal person would have made such a request (if they made it at all) quietly, assuming good faith.

At first blush, it seems like a stupid thing to offend the judges who are overseeing cases against you.

But Musk, like his co-president, #Trump, is part mob boss, part school yard bully. Such bluster shows him to be "strong," tees up appeals against "biased" judges, and then encourages allies in the regime to actually start #impeachment proceedings for the sin of opposition.
