I'm not heartbroken. I've never warmed to Smith's doctor the way I did to previous actors in the role. He took the zany, absentminded naif just a bit too far (how much of that was Smith and how much was Moffat is difficult to tell). It didn't put me off the show, but it made the episodes much more of a spectacle and circus than a story.
There's a lot of ways the next Doctor could go. Hopefully yet-still-younger isn't one of them (and , for that matter, I'd enjoy seeing someone of a different skin color, or gender, take on the part).
