Someone one pointed out to me how remarkable it is that people who believe in reincarnation and recall their past lives were always princesses and kings and other noteworthy figures, not the (vast majority) drudges and peasants and grunts and ordinary folks.
Similarly, it's always remarkable to me when folks assert they are revealing a vast conspiracy that's resulted in the death of many previous potential whistle-blowers, without explaining how it is that they, themselves, are still alive.

I'm just going to start answering all these kinds of questions with: Aliens.
I was Cleopatra in two past lives.
It just occurred to me that most of us don't remember our past lives because they were, well, boring.
My favorite 'gamist' reincarnation theory runs like this: Lots of people remember being Cleopatra, because they were. Parts of her, anyway.
The human race started out with a limited number of souls. Powerful souls. Great souls. Souls of grace and magic. But as the population grew, those souls started to fragment. There was only so much 'soul' to go around.
Each generation, the world gets more populous. Each of those starting souls is fragmented more and more. So a thousand people can remembering Napoleon under hypnosis because the soul fragment that was Napoleon is shattered more and more.
Now what would happen if you could start re-integrating souls back into one body?
Well now. That's an RPG setting. 😀
