The Trip from Faerie

We drove out to California this year in order to bring back some stuff from Margie's folks in our big Outback — which, once we started packing it for the trip back home, suddenly seemed not quite so big, as +Margie Kleerup and Jim, in the picture, learn.

However, the two of them are, in fact, able to warp time and space (but not mass) when packing, and we managed to get suitcases, crates, guitar, cooler, packs, artwork, bags, etc. all in there, along with three people.

The trip, while long, went fine. The first day, US 40 from LA to Santa Fe, was about 13 hours with stops. Weather was fine. Kay and I finished reading The Hobbit aloud, and I started in on Steven Brust's Jhereg.

Second day was a bit dicier, as Colorado's been on the edge of the cold and storms that hit points east.  Going over Raton Pass from NM to CO wasn't bad — we had more problems navigating the surface streets in Trinidad. The roads from there north were wet, occasionally snowy in the fast lane, but generally we had no trouble at all getting home by late afternoon.

The cats were pleased to see us. (Thanks, Jackie!)

The evening was quiet — we ordered in Chinese, drank some champagne, watched an ep of B5 and The Time of the Doctor, and called it an early evening.

It was nice to sleep in our own bed. It was even nicer that we had already decided to take today off, to catch up on unpacking, etc.
