When Missouri in 2007 repealed a law requiring a gun permit to purchase a handgun, homicides went up, and the number of recently-purchased guns recovered from criminals and crime scenes doubled.
Neighboring states did not see a similar increase, nor was there an increase in non-firearm homicide in Missouri in the same period.
