Slowing ahead

We were driving up into downtown Denver early last evening, and for some hours we kept seeing  massive red patch on Google Maps and a "1 hour 15 minutes" timeline to get to our destination.  Now I see why.

That particular stretch involves curves and the beginning of high walls on either side of the freeway. It's wide, but people still whip through there awfully fast, even when there's sketchy weather and road conditions. The assumption being that, well, heck, what could go wrong?

We ended up going up Santa Fe instead.
