1. Someone "more worthy" taking up the role of Thor is hardly new, but, then, not a lot in super-hero comics is, and given Aaron's already splendid work on Thor the past few years, I trust him with this.
2. It's not a stretch to think that this is actually going to be Thor's sister, whose existence was revealed in the current "Original Sin" multi-title event (shrugs).
3. It will never last, any more than any other hero's death in the Marvel Universe (or, heck, the DC Universe) has ever lasted (see, also, upcoming "Death of Wolverine"). Cue redemption arc for the old Thor, to last a while (possibly a year, when Avengers 2: Age of Ultron comes out). At which time the new Thor will step down, die, change into something else, or otherwise allow for a return to the status quo.
I complement Marvel on putting a woman into a major, kick-ass role, and my hope is that she goes on to bigger and better things once the story line runs its course. And I look forward to some Jason Aaron goodness in the meantime.

#Marvel 's new Thor is going to be a lady who goes by the name Thor!
Marvel’s New Thor Is Going To Be A Woman, According To The View | The Mary Sue
ABC’s The View announced Marvel’s new god of thunder, Thor, will be a woman.
The feminine form of the name Thor, is Thora.
It's been a while so details are fuzzy but it seems like there was an old story arc that had Loki turning Thor into a woman, thinking a female thunder god would be easier to defeat. It turned out he was wrong, and of course, Thor did find a way to return to his original male form.
Not the worst idea I've ever heard, but I'm still glad I stopped reading the current line of comics.
