Okay, so, yes, there are elements of this film that are ridiculous on the face of it, and other elements that are ridiculous as soon as you think a moment about them … But, hell, it’s a Giant Robot and a Kaiju movie, and it does splendd as both. The robotic stuff is marvelous, believable and feelable. The kaiju bits are a bit more repetitive (the variations are not variable enough). But, damn, it’s just as much fun as a movie set in usually dar…
This is one of those movies that I can freely and willingly ignore how stupid it is because: giant robots fighting kaiju.
It's like a Jackie Chan film. If you're going to it for a realistic and sensible plot then you're both missing the point and going to be sorely disappointed.
When I went to see it with the family, I warned them to "set their expectations to 10 year old boy." With expectations so set, everybody loved it.
Yup. All sorts of things that would have bothered me otherwise (wait, what? giant walls? really?) I just let go past because, well, Giant Robots and Kaiju!
I don't know if I can do that. I'm still afraid to try to watch it.

James Garner is indeed in it, though it's through a motion capture performance as one of the kaiju.
