HBO is all enthused about its new service, coming next year, which will allow folk to watch HBO without a cable TV subscription. Though they're very careful about not offending cable TV companies, emphasizing there are still "significant growth opportunities inside the pay-TV universe."
Of course, the cable companies aren't going to be all that bothered — because most of them (e.g., Comcast) are also broadband Internet providers … and all that HBO activity (along with other pay TV channels that will imitate them) will almost certainly have an impact on data caps and tiered pricing charges. Those HD movies add up pretty quickly. So I don't think they're going to be hurting.
