Dateline: 1978
I remember watching this on network TV, and being horribly disappointed that it was not picked up for a movie. Sure, the acting was wooden and the attention to comic canon was nigh non-existent, but, hey, it was the best that a TV movie (and cool Ditkoesque sets, optical FX, and stop action photography) could be expected to produce in the late 70s.

So, yeah, laugh if you will … but, with all due respect to Peter Hooten, if it were Benedict Cumberbatch in that role, it would be even spiffier than I took it to be in my calllow pre-geek-mainstreaming youth.

I loved that old thing. Not a great representation of Dr. Strange, but fun. Honestly, Dr. Mordrid with Jeffrey Combs was a better Dr. Strange movie. In fact, I'm worried the new one won't improve on it.
It's laughable today but it was pretty good stuff in 78. My main gripe at that time was that he wasn't in his Doctor Strange costume until the end.

+Stefon Mears At the time, given the dearth of decent TV super-heroics, it was AWESOMESAUCE. Even now, there are some neat bits to it, even if the acting and writing are generally deeply mediocre.
