R. A. Montgomery, author of many of the CYOA books, has passed away. In a world before easy access to computers, this was as close to individual interactive gaming as you could get.

I've always had a hankering to write one of these things, but I doubt I could do as well as +DeAnna Knippling and her Zombie Apocalpyse book (apparently, sadly, out of print).

Incidentally, I think the analysis on how THAT one's put together would be fascinating. There's a CYOA within the CYOA, for example. A lot of tricks that I hadn't thought of. Highly recommend.
