Nostalgia is focusing on today's problems while ignoring those of yesterday. Ah, to be back in the golden days when everything was great, everyone was happy, and all those bothers that afflict the modern era (fill in the blanks there) hadn't yet come about.
There is an ongoing thread (as the article notes) in GOP / Conservative politics about restoring / returning America to some past golden age, when we were strong and vibrant and everything was peachy-keen.
The problem is, the past wasn't all that keen a place for a lot of folk. The present is certainly not without issues (no time is), but I'm far from convinced that I'd be willing to return us to those thrilling days of yesteryear — and I'm an old(ish) white guy, the target demographic for that kind of appeal to patriotic nostalgia.
