Always kind of nice to see a stereotype fall

I don't know if it's an anomaly or what, but I've always gotten fast and pleasant service from the Colorado DMV office over on County Line Rd. in Littleton. Renewed my license today, and was in and out in about 40 minutes.

(Colorado actually has an online facility to do this, but I was late in renewing.)

So … kudos where kudos are due.

  1. I've never had a problem at the Colorado Driver license office. But the Title and Registration offices have always been a nightmare. When I first transferred my car to Colorado plates, I did all my research and called ahead to make sure there were no surprises when I got to the window.

After a 3.5 hour wait, I had the pleasure of finding out that what I was told on the phone was wrong. I was bumped out of line to fill out the proper paperwork and it took me another 2 hours to get back to the window again.

  2. +Nick McIntosh The thing that irks me most about car registration is that it is county based. Which I discovered after I'd moved here and tried to register my car while downtown at work.

I haven't hand any other significant problems with the registration offices, except there's usually a huge line, lots of works, but only a few actually interfacing with the public at a time.

  3. I find the DMV slow, but certainly much better than the stereotype. And +Nick McIntosh, I've gotten to the window several times and found out I was missing something (some random bit of paper, or needed an Emissions test afterall) — they've always said that if I can get back the same day, I can come right up to the same window and be next after whoever they're helping when I get there, without having to start the wait all over again. I can't imagine why that didn't happen in your case. Maybe it's a county thing.

I will say — I'm very glad I've always had a safe place to leave the kids when I've had to go to the DMV, though. Taking small children there just seems mean. To them and to anybody in close proximity.

  4. When I lived in Northern Kentucky is was always worse than the stereotype.

Down here in Florida, though, it's pretty smooth sailing. Granted, Vero is a pretty small town, but I won't complain.

  5. Back when the drivers licensing place was across the street, it was never more than 30 minutes.

The longest at the DMV was to get a replacement title for the Spitfire, and the only took 45 minutes. Mostly because there was only 1 of the 10 windows was taking care of those kind of things.
