My mom ran across this a few weeks back while cleaning the garage — a box with scrapbooks from her high school and college days.
In the high school category, she found a program from the 1953 All Cal High School Orchestra that gathered in Santa Barbara once a year. In '53, a young Hal Hill, who lived in Bakersfield, was at the event as principal cello and a soloist, while while a young Gloria Vial, who was living in Santa Barbara, was concertmistress on the violin.
After the event, they headed back to their respective homes, with only some well-wishes scribbled on programs to recall the meeting. Certainly they had no idea that they would encounter each other again at Stanford in a couple of years, let alone eventually marry after graduation.
A neat little bit of family history.
