On Religion, Scripture, and Conflict

Good Daily Show dialog between Jon Stewart and Reza Aslan about religion, making some interesting points about religion as identity (vs theology) and the confirmation bias of scripture.

  1. +Jon Weber I'm aware that Reza Aslan is controversial in some circles (the comments for this video on YouTube are … interesting), but while it's possible I'm carrying forward my own confirmation bias, his observations in this particular interview seem right to me.

  2. i really have no desire to get involved in a Sam Harris discussion at this point. Just looking at Harris' article and his explanations around his statement, I do think there's plenty of blame to spread around in that exchange, and I'll leave it at that.

  3. +Dave Hill my point wasn't too drag this into a religious argument. I care nothing of the sort. I'll even grant to you or anyone else that Sam may have conceded some high ground with his arguments. But the tweet from Reza speaks for itself. Does anyone really think Sam was attempting to justify the death of others?

In my eyes Reza made his bed with that tweet and has yet to clarify or apologize in any significant way.
