Another cool-looking Syfy series? Inconceivable! ("The Magicians")

Sure, they're still making "Sharknado" movies, but Syfy is on a series bent toward good SF/F TV work. Lev Grossman's The Magicians has been on my list to read for a while, and this may push me toward that, as it reads as "What Hogwarts would be like as a college in the real world" kind of a thing, with all the gritty darkness that implies.

  1. I recommend the series, but not if you’re in the mood implied by the preview above, if that makes any sense. Be in a “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell” mood instead, and one where you can see reading books as a soul-crushing addiction which you could stop at any time, only not just now. Personally, I consider the three masterpieces, and found the ending of the series ringing an almost perfect note.
