I never had this happen in person but I did have a really awkward and short phone call once.
By the time I actually get around to making plans with someone, I can tell if we have chemistry. So for the most part, it's been really good. I hope I don't ever have to date online… That's gotta be awkward
I don’t know about this…I’ve met seven online friends in meatspace at various times and places and the only thing that stopped us from talking at all these meetings, was time (and the staff of one restaurant that wanted our group to leave so they could clean). One online friend dropped in on her way through, for breakfast and stayed for lunch and dinner. It was wonderful. Maybe it depends on the individuals?
