Decades after the original film was a box office disappointment, Disney is developing a The Rocketeer sequel titled The Rocketeers.

This works for me. I was disappointed that the movie never got a sequel before. Interested in seeing how certain elements get handled since the sequel will take place a few later and black woman is going to have the title role. Back then, being black and a woman was like two strikes against you right off the bat but not sure Disney will want to touch too heavily on that.

its actually a reboot
It's stupid that they're calling it a reboot… or a sequel-reboot as they refer to it. The Rocketeer from the first film disappears and someone new gets the jetpack. That makes it a sequel to me. The studio wants it both ways – to connect it to the first film and keep it separate at the same time.
+Marty S. I agree that it's a sequel. Given the time frame involved (and that none of the original characters are coming back), I can understand the "reboot" description, but it appears to be intended to be another chapter of a longer tale, not a new story.
