Wind wings!

My first car was a 1971 Super Beetle. And I learned (especially in a non-air conditioned car) the glory of wind wings (or whatever you called them). Nothing was better at directing blasts of outside air into the car to cool(ish) the driver and passengers off.

Yes, air conditioning (and, maybe, security concerns) helped kill them off. But I'd run the a/c a lot less, I suspect, if my current car had these.

  1. The American auto industry claimed, back in the day, that they got rid of them due to public demand. Unsightly.

This was about the time the Japanese were eating their lunch.
