It’s not surprising that, given the First-Ever Female Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), her Companion would be cast with a male actor. Reading the early morning news from the UK, there seems to be a fair amount of panic in the streets over this one, as Walsh seems most known for his roles in the soap Coronation Street and for his work as a footballer and comedian in the past and as a game show host and singer more recently.
Me, I know him mostly from his work on Law & Order UK, which Chris Chibnall (the new Who showrunner) was the lead writer for, and he did an excellent job in the Jerry Orbach analog role. He can do drama and take things seriously as needed (and I do hope that’s more the approach they take). (Actually, knowing Chibnall did L&OUK also adds further confidence in the next era for the Doctor.)
Bradley Walsh ‘to be Doctor Who’s next companion’
Bradley Walsh, the former Coronation Street star and quiz-show host, will reportedly be Doctor Who’s new companion.
I forgot to mention that Walsh also has a Who tie: he appeared in a couple of episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
I have a question,
Why some of the people like you using of this phrases, "male" and "female", when the writing a article?
Do you have to use these words in your article?
That is, without these words, your text will be dumb and meaningless?
Do you think use of phrases "his" or "her" are not enough?
Or maybe I cannot understand this language and this culture very well?
I dont know….. Since the show has taken a new turn after Chris I sort of got used to a bit of sexual tension in the plots.. I dont see these two as a pair… OMG I sound like the teen fans I cringe at sometimes
+Hunter Seeker I am perfectly fine with the Doctor and Companion not being romantically (or sexually) involved. Twelve and Bill certainly had no such tension; neither did Ten and Donna; in both cases, that lack worked extremely well.
His football career isn’t really known at all. It would have been 40 years ago, and it was a very minor team.
Not a big fan of L&O, but prefer our remake (same scripts). Its less overwrought.
It was interesting recognizing the scripts as they were redone. In general, yes, I preferred the UK version.
I don’t know about the doctors before 9, but it appears that one thing the companions have in common is that they are young (under 30) and somewhat naive. Explain to me why the new doctor needs a mature companion?
Romans was a time lady. Surely that’s old enough for you?
Romana.
DYAC
@LH – True enough. I was thinking in terms of the Modern Who (Nine and onwards). Though even going back to the Classic Who, Romana’s sort of an outlier in so many ways.
