Our family won the Renewal Lottery, for once, with this Syfy announcement, as we’ve been faithful Killjoys fans, but never got into Dark Matter.
The KJ announcement, though, isn’t unalloyed. It’s two more seasons of 10 episodes each, which is huge to wrap up a series, sure, but is still some truncated space to tell the intended (?) story.
Syfy’s Killjoys Renewed for Two Final Seasons, But Dark Matter is Cancelled
SyFy’s story of interplanetary bounty hunters Dutch, Jon Jaqobis, and D’avin Jaqobis is getting two more seasons to wrap up its story and gracefully exit the stage. Unfortunately, another Syfy show didn’t get so lucky.

My brother won't be happy. He just started watching Dark Matter.
Grr, I LIKED DarkMatter. Not so keen on Killjoys (I lasted 3 episodes).
It's Comcast's fault of why the show got canceled.
+Jordan Hensley And they did that … how?
For example, they renewed Killjoys for 2 more seasons and didn't say anything about "Dark Matter". Making Killjoys look more better than the show.
So, yeah, SyFy is owned by NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast and GE. But I don't particularly blame Comcast per se; I'm not aware of any particular animus toward the show or something that would make it a "fault" — I presume that it was a matter of ratings vs production costs. I haven't seen anything about what level the decision was made at.
I can see why the Netflix option appeals to fans. The question is whether or not it appeals to Netflix.
+Jordan Hensley They renewed KJ for two more seasons at 10 episodes each. But they very clearly said that DM was not renewed.
Now, being angry at that DM was not renewed is completely legit. I've felt that pain. But there's no sign that it was anything other than poorer ratings vs production costs. Both shows have gotten a lot of support from SyFy over their runs.
Dark Matter's ratings were … not good. And they were down this season from the previous one.
'Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.'
Killjoys had a .17 rating in that demo, and 627K viewers — which was enough, it seems, to warrant the limited renewal.
