Well, not quite singing, but I think it is awesome that Nissan, in response to federal safety regulations to have its electric vehicles and hybrids actually make noise when moving (to signal pedestrians that a car is coming), isn’t producing a virtual motor sound, but an actual dynamic set of musical tonalities.
I have no idea what a busy city street like this would sound, but if this is the wave of the future, it’s a remarkably fun one.
(Unless, of course, this becomes a commercialized means of audio advertising, and we start having cars giving commercials as they drive down the street, or blaring out paid-for music of the driver’s choice. That would be highly annoying.)
I just want the Enterprise warp "voomp voomp" and I'll be happy.
Id like to see the Cylon swoosh sound, or Knight Rider, or the TARDIS.
To be honest, I want to upload my own sound – but imagine the horrific cacophony if they allowed that. It's bad enough when people screw with their exhaust…
Car companies already do this to some extent. The sound of the old VW Beetle was quite distinctive, and for a long time I could recognize the sound of a Subaru engine and exhaust.
+Dan Eastwood True, though that's a more natural result of distinctive car and exhaust systems. That said, higher-end and more powerful cars are often tuned and shaped to produce the sound the manufacturers think they should have to make the right impression on both people inside and outside of the vehicle.
