You’d almost think Donald Trump hasn’t read an article about Japanese car manufacture and US imports since, oh, 1976 or so. (Emphasis mine.)
President Trump called on Japan to build more cars in the U.S. during his stop in the country as part of his first official tour of Asia as president. “Try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over,” Trump said at an event with Japanese business executives, according to a pool report. “That’s not rude?” he added.
Three out of every four Japanese brand cars sold in North America were manufactured on the continent, according to Columbus Business First. And Mazda and Toyota announced in August that they were investing $1.6 billion to start a new manufacturing plant in the U.S. that will create about 4,000 new jobs.
So aside from basically commanding Japanese business executives what to do, he also has his facts completely wrong. Aside from that, I’m sure it was a very successful event.
Trump tells Japan to build cars in US instead of shipping them over
President Trump called on Japan to build more cars in the U.S. during his stop in the country as part of his first official tour of Asia as president.

Or, more likely, he knows perfectly well and is just speaking to his followers, who only buy what they consider american cars and are pissed off at people who buy what they consider unamerican cars.
Toyota? Nissan? Honda?
Many American cars have more foreign made parts than Japanese cars do.
Why doesn't Trump tell American automakers to make all their cars in America along with all the parts!!!
Trump's misguided thoughts aren't unique to him, but he certainly is a clear example of outdated thinking. This was evident in the first days of his administration, when he convened a meeting with three and only three automakers – (the new) GM, Ford, and Fiat – whoops, I mean Fiat Chrysler.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-autos/trump-talks-to-u-s-automakers-pushes-for-new-american-plants-idUSKBN1581CA
Notice that even Reuters used the headline "Trump talks to U.S. automakers." And Reuters is certainly not a Trump mouthpiece.
Japan like the idea; so why is this a concern?
It seems one comment was taken totally out of context. He apparently just praised those japanese car makers who bring jobs to the US and was encouraging more to do the same.
+Ryan M. Dupée Good spot!
And factchecked in the WaPo, notably:

Trump looks like a oompa loompa on his way to court lol. But all jokes aside he is a very knowledgeable business man, So hopefully he does some great things for America while he is in power.
+Guy Rosa A businessman who has gone bankrupt more than a few times. So unless bankruptcy is part of his business plan, he’s lousy at business.
+Guy Rosa Trump's "success" as a businessman is that he's managed to parlay the large grubstake he got from is Dad into a very rich empire. With, as Linda noted, a number of bankruptcies in his wake, as well as stiffed contractors and broke partners. Oh, and apparently no sense of business ethics. Not exactly what America needs.
+Linda Tewes over 500 companies. A few may go bankrupt. Have you ever successfully started up and ran your own company? Pretty tough job.
Funny how all American industries try to copy the Japanese car factory in the south.
+Dave Hill Why are you deleting my comments, because I point out the bottom line and you wish to continue arguing with reality?
That would mean more tax breaks…that US companies don't get for exports…what is the propose deals…?
+Greg Lawson What +Dave Hill said. Would you still regard DJT a good man of business if you were the painter or cabinet maker he failed to pay?
If he’s such a good businessman, why do you suppose American banks won’t lend him any money?
the proposed deal is a corporate tax cut across the board allowing businesses like Intel to return their production factories to American soil, which… they are
+Linda Tewes that's why I have insurance and a lawyer. If someone fails to pay up then I file lien against them. Like I said running a business is tough definitely not for the faint at heart.
Maybe so but still, he's done a lot more than the rest of us. I'm not trying to defend the man in anyway, but at least he's giving it ago you can't hate him for at least trying. He's still better than the Australian Prime minister.
+Greg Lawson I dare you to go into business with the Trumps.
+Linda Tewes definitely a better business man than ANY career politician.
+Linda Tewes too late, we already did in Atlantic City. We performed all contractual obligations and were promptly paid. No problem.
Lol that was one of the agreements since the 1980s Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi already built plants in the US unfortunately the Mitsubishi plant in Bloomington Illinois closed.
+Greg Lawson He went bankrupt running a casino. LOL.
As for whether or not you did business with Trump …. your word is about as good as his.
He is so good. By the time he finished his speech that three out of every four Japanese brand cars sold in North America were manufactured on the continent. MAGA!!!
+Linda Tewes whatever you say Linda. Class envy probably suits you best.
Indeed, that was very unfair cherry-picking, and obviously deliberate at the starting point. Who's done it? Is it possible to trace?
To build car in U.S. seems that a lot of Japanese has to be imported.
MAAAAAAGGGGGGAAAAAAA!!!!!!! 🙏
Thooomo stay in the United kingdom and don't worry about the United States you and your Brits for Trump if you want him come get him and go fuck yourself laddy.
+Seraphim Michael Um, you repeated the same comment, and I deleted the duplicate.
+Dave Hill Well apparently I should repeat it again because this post amounts to a lot of shit tossing all the while overlooking the bottom line… ummm…. errr… uhhh
+Seraphim Michael because he is afraid of you. The left is all about censorship especially when threatened.
Given that the initial story turns out to have been an out-of-context and incorrect quote, and conversation has wandered, I'm closing the G+ comments.
Well, except long enough to drop a banhammer on Greg, as a zero-picture, zero-background troll. Aloha.
+Greg Lawson One career politician who was successful in business without getting a handout from daddy was Herbert Hoover. Granted he wasn't a multi-billionaire (in today's dollars), but he never went bankrupt either.
Andrew Jackson also did well for himself. Others did also (Lyndon Johnson, Bill Clinton), but they used their political or post-political power to increase their wealth.

To expect a pig to do anything else but grunt is asking for way too much.
Fascinating to look at the bottom or the list. Every President from Eisenhower to the present has been a multi-millionaire.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States_by_net_worth
But those other Presidents either was a Governor Senator representative General.
And had a degree in law.
This has a master's degree in bullshit and MORON.
The first president ever to get his orientation from the morning TV shows and then complain about fake news!
Huh. I though I'd turned off the comments.
