CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) is highly popular (and highly effective), but the GOP in Congress let its funding lapse (they were “too busy” trying to repeal the ACA), and now Trump is proposing that Congress try to claw back some of the wildly imbalanced budget he’s responsible for (through big military hikes and huge tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations) by cutting funding for CHIP.
Yes, the policy position of the head of the GOP is that the tax cut he got passed for himself be paid for in part by reducing medical care funding for poor children.
It’s remarkably Dickensian, but, hey, that’s our president, and his party. Something to remember (yet again) this November, and certainly a question I’d like to see asked of every GOP congressional candidate heading into that election.

I would guess if when someone says they are a republican, it would be a good idea to figure out which Dickens villain they were.
Jonas Chuzzelwit?
Ebonizer Scrooge?
+Stan Pedzick Well, I was thinking in this context of the Cruel Workhouse Owner / Supporter. A Bumble or a Scrooge.
(Btw, it's "Ebenezer," but I really like "Ebonizer" because it sounds like a Doctor Who or Harry Potter device to drain the color and light from something. 🙂 )
