Keep in mind the article does say the study has some oddities to it and doesn't establish causality. It bears further research.
Having a dementia-producing ailment causes you to drink diet soda.
+Les Jenkins Certainly. But it's also another stone in the bucket for that class of beverages (e.g., https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/artificial-sweeteners-may-change-our-gut-bacteria-in-dangerous-ways/ and https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2016/09/08/the-awful-truth-about-diet-soda-and-weight-gain-according-to-science/#dee0e2f462f8)
Indeed. I stopped drinking regular sodas in favor of diet well over a decade ago and I gave up diet when it became clear from studies that it wasn't any more helpful for losing weight. It's been years since I've drunk soda of any kind…
… I miss it so.
I recently gave up my beloved Coke Zero for iced tea when dining out. At home, if I really want a soda, I'll do something sugared, with the knowledge that it's like eating a big candy bar.
