How sad that Jones thinks "Life of Brian" couldn't be made today. How sad that he's probably right.
I remember the bluster and bebotherment about it when film came out. I didn't understand it then, and don't understand it now, since it clearly is not a lampoon of Christ but of (at most) Christianity in general and, in fact, religious and ideological fanaticism in all its forms. It's making fun of people, and how they (over)react to Grand Causes, whether it's a Holy Discarded Shoe, or the banner of the People's Liberation Front of Judea.
That today it would be less likely to be made (and that one that was centered around Islam would be right out) says that its original message is needed more than ever. #ddtb
