The first did marginally well enough, particularly overseas, to justify a sequel. There's been a number of 'meh' films that got sequels because they did well outside of the United States. On the plus side, Nathan Fillion will take on the role of Hermes in it replacing Dawson Creek's Dylan Neal who played the role in the first film.
Oh, I am well aware that foreign film revenue often neither tracks with US box office and can make a film a success. I'm just surprised I hadn't heard of a sequel.
