Hey, isn’t it time to start noodging folks for more donations?

After all, we’re so close to $250 — wouldn’t that be a nice round number to aspire to? I sure think so.

Now … I went cruising again, hampered by all the same stuff mentioned earlier.

Came up bupkis. Apologies. Either couldn’t get to sites I hadn’t seen before (going hit or miss through the webring), or, frankly, nothing further I could recommend. Sturgeon may have been an optimist.

More actual comics contents after I pour myself some more Coke Zero and get back to work.

(listening to: Beatles, “She Loves You” from One)
(listening to: Pointer Sisters, “Jump (For My Love)” from Billboard Top Hits – 1984)

So it’s going on 2 p.m. I started at 7 a.m. We’re 30% of the way there! Yay!

The food supplies are more than holding out — not actually eating/drinking that much so far. On the other hand, I’ve gotten through the “P”s in the Trade Paperback stack.

Not that I’m running out of material.

But this time … something a little different.

What comics am I reading right now?

Quiet house, save for the fan and the music.

It’s interesting — some folks are a lot into the “Blogathon Community” — the forums, the “radio,” the chats, etc. Me? When I’m creating, leave me alone. I have only one chance to transcribe what the Voice in My Head is telling me to write, and if you make me respond to you, I will lose it and the Voice will be angry. The Voice being angry is a bad thing …

Jeez, it’s only 1:30 and I’m beginning to lose it … 🙂

More from around the Blogathon Webring … Chemmonkey: Reviewing online games. Another one to go back and check out afterwards. (Blogging for AVERT). Imagine This: Writing about fantasy in art…

More from around the Blogathon Webring …

Dagnabbit, this is not made any easier by the number of sites that don’t have the webring code on their page like they’re supposed to. That includes a number of sites in the frelling Blogathon Hotspot page, which were all, in theory, vetted by the Blogathon Council (or whomever). Rrg.

(It’s also not helped by the fact that the Blogosphere seems to follow Sturgeon’s Law, but that’s a commentary for another time.)

About time, after this, for me to get up and walk around, eat something, take a general break. But there’s minutes to go before I post, and I have miles of comics to roast, and I have miles of comics to roast …

(I’ve started posting multiple “listening to” bits, as the mood seizes me. Since these posts take, oh, about half an hour to do, that makes for several tracks randomizing through iTunes …)

Checking out some of the other Blogathon sites out there (via the Blogathon Ring control in the sidebar), a few that catch my eye:

  1. On My Own, I’ll Dream My Life Away: At the top of the list at the moment, a very yummy-sounding recipe for Creamy Garlic Soup. Yum. I may have to go back here later. (Blogging for the National Kidney Foundation)
  2. Scifi Ranter Girl: Doing a count-down of the twentyfour most influential shows in SF. Excluding Star Trek. Definitely need to check back in here. (Blogging for the Planetary Society)

  3. Craft Services: Rey and his pals discuss music. (Blogging for FINCA International, which looks pretty keen)

  4. Three Moms and a Single Lady: Talking about sex. One of the moms is my monitor, so she gets a link too. (Blogging for the MISS Foundation)

Oh, and, Blogathon guys? Some folks have been less than diligent in putting the Blogathon Ring banner/code on their page (either at the top or at all). Makes browsing this stuff a bit more difficult. Is anyone checking this stuff out?

It seems to me that the most interesting blogs, at least for the purposes of the Blogathon, are the ones with a theme. It’s hard to just random-associate and natter on about onesself for 24 hours (heck, it seems challenging for some people for just a few hours). Too late for some folks by now, but I’d file it away as general advice for the future.

Of course, it also seems to me that the most interesting blogs have a relatively attractive page design. I’ll let you humor me that I’m one of them.

The Blogathon Hotspot page has some interesting-looking blogs, too. Including Yours Truly. Access to it seems to be a bit screwed up — I had to [OK] a password request for “webmail” twenty times to get in — but I’ll be going back here later.

(listening to: McLachlan, Sarah, “Building a Mystery” from Lilith Fair)

Some posts of note from 2003’s Blogathon effort:

  1. Back in 2003, the CBLDF actually mentioned the Blogathon and me (and Neil Gaiman echoed the mention). This year, they’re in the middle of Wizard World, so it’s not a slow news week. 🙂
  2. My early comic book reading career, continued.

  3. My thoughts on the CBLDF and their work.

Consider this my first “kinda slackin’ off there, Dave, aren’tcha?” post.

(listening to: McKennitt, Loreena, “Dickens’ Dublin (The Palace)” from Parallel Dreams)

One challenge to this Blogathon thing is that … well, really, 30 minutes isn’t very long to do this sort of thing. Three reviews last time? Yikes! I could do this for 48 hours!

Well, no.

First off, I want to thank Margie for her support in this, on a bunch of different levels. Things have been increasingly stressful at her office, between organizational conflicts and a Huge, Massive, Critically Important Project that she’s been thrown into, and it would have been very easy for her to say, “Dave, I can’t afford to watch after Katherine all day (and probably most of Sunday) while you do this silly thing.”

Instead, she just said, “Cool,” made sure I had snacks and stuff available, and urged me (repeatedly) to get to sleep early last night.

She’s swell.
