Thank you, Dave, for these links! I am a HUGE Disney fan, and I think it is criminal to deny people the right to see this movie.
I agree that if the release were handled in such a way…have someone like Leonard Maltin (who I am also a fan of…have several of his Disney/cartoon books) host it, and explain the historic value of the film…I don’t see how anyone can complain. It makes no sense to me to deny that this film ever existed!
Too many people today are just too damned touchy about things!
Jebus. I remember seeing that film when I was a kid — or at least, bits and pieces of it. What’s next, are they going to ban Roots because it depicts blacks as slaves?
Hell, I have a (bad) copy of it. I love that flick.
I’ve signed other petitions for this one over the past few years — it irks me that Disney refuses to release this classic for us.
Then again, I hate Disney’s “we release films for only a short while, then lock ’em up for a decade” mentality.
The latter doesn’t rankle me too much — they are making the product available (if keeping it “dear”), and it’s often available through second-hand sources.
Deciding that a product is too “dangerous” for them to market is quite another matter.
Iam Italian there are many movies that show Italian americans as idiots or overfed mobsters. We are always cursing and yelling at the dinner table. Well I am not complaining, if I do not like a movie I turn it off. I am sickened that a small minority can do this to a majority. I always thought the majority ruled!It is time for the people to take a stand and get Disney to re-release this wonderful movie from my childhood. Actually Disney is really starting to bother me they seem to be so damned politically correct. Walt would be turning over in his grave. Also I am sure you know that Bill Cosby bought all the Little Rascal rights so we can never see them again. It is nice to be rich and deprive the population from that time seeing these great works. We made him rich, and we made Disney rich too. Thank you for trying to get this done, maybe someday my grandchildren will see this wonderful movie. Felicia Dorste fdorste@aol.com
As an Italian-American, I’ve never felt any particular insult from the I-A stereotypes.
I’d rather see the issue resolved in the marketplace — let the people who want it buy it, and those who don’t not.
