It’s this week’s This-or-That:

1. “Time” or “Newsweek”? I “grew up” with Time when I was in high school debate class. Fell out of touch. Found, when I wanted to get back into a weekly news mag a few years back, that I preferred Newsweek. Not that I read either, these days.

2. “Wall Street Journal” or “National Enquirer”? The Journal. I’m not much into media celebrity news coverage.

3. “Sports Illustrated” or “Cook’s Illustrated”? Assuming the latter is about cooking, probably it. I don’t follow sports, and if I want to see nekkid women, I’ll surf the Internet, not buy them covered up with bathing suits.

4. “Martha Stewart Living” or “MAD Magazine”? Probably the latter, though both give me the giggles.

5. “Cosmopolitan” or “Maxim”? Let’s see — pretentious obsession with sex, or unpretentious obsession with fantasy sex. Bah.

6. “People” or “Entertainment Weekly”? I like reading People when I’m waiting at the dentist’s office. That’s about it.

7. “National Geographic” or “Readers Digest”? National Geographic is an extremely fine magazine that I dare not subscribe to, lest my house become permanent home to those little yellow bricks. RD has cute jokes and quotes, but that’s about it.

8. “Good Housekeeping” or “Popular Mechanics”? What’s on TV?

9. “PC World” or “MacWorld”? I prefer PC Magazine, myself.

10. “Southern Living” or “Yankee” (magazine about New England living)? Hand me that Popular Mechanics, won’t you?

  1. 11. These days? JMS (and JRJr) on Spidey absolutely rock. I don’t think I’m reading any X-titles any more.

    12. The Palantir Post (“Our Eye On You Since S.A. 2002!”)
