One of the joys of starting school is filling out endless forms for the school. Which would be annoying at best, but the fact that the same info is filled out multiple times is truly irritating.

I mean, I have to fill out an emergency info card for Katherine’s after school program and for her school, both of which ask for all the same info (name, address, teacher, grade, me and my multitude of phone numbers, Margie and her multitude of phone numbers, plus the names of people to contact in an emergency and their numbers plus the names of people allowed to pick Katherine up and their phone numbers). Plus there’s also a Emergency School Closure Card, which again asks all the same info plus what Katherine
should do when the school bus drops her off in case of an emergency closure.

I would be willing to run the risk of someone seeing Info They Oughtn’t if I could fill out just one, multi-part form and be done with it.

Better yet, computerize the entry so that the same data blocks can be used for different print-outs.

Even better yet, provide print-outs of previous records to parents of enrollees, and let us mark up changes (if any), like I do for my company annually.

If I didn’t know better, I’d consider it all a massive conspiracy to get us to buy into a massive government Number of the Beast database. And it’s working, at least for me.
