Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The America John Boehner grew up in – “If the would-be Speaker wants to argue publicly that Democrats are trying ‘snuff out’ the America that he grew up in, the public should know exactly what it is about that era he wants to fight to protect, or more to the point, bring back.”
- The paradox of McDonald v. City of Chicago – This is actually very interesting (however you feel about the ruling): that the 2nd Amendment trumps state law is the majority ruling, but there’s no majority reason for why. Which, I would think, will make it difficult to argue cases based on the ruling (one way or the other).
- Sessions congratulates Lilly Ledbetter for law in her name that he opposed. – So is he just stupid and out of touch, or a bald-faced liar? (Or does that have to be an either-or question?)
- Haley Barbour: ‘No One Has More To Lose In This Deal Than BP’ – Barbour’s analysis — even granting it any intellectual basis — only applies in a world where risks are accurately assessed and acted upon, decisions are only made by rational actors, and where the costs of those risks are borne by the people taking them. None of those apply here (or pretty much anywhere).
- Subjective Validation – I’m always tempted, when reading horoscopes aloud to others, to read the wrong ones. And those fortune cookies — they’re always so amazingly pertinent, aren’t they?
- CHART OF THE DAY: The Scariest Job Chart Ever Gets Uglier | TPM LiveWire – So obviously we need to cut spending and let unemployment coverage lapse. That’s sure to help the job market, right? Am I right?
- Glenn Beck Uses Military Charity To Fund His Book Launch – Tax Free – It’s certainly tempting to conclude that anyone who still trusts anything Beck has to say deserves to be taken.
- Al Franken Demolishes GOP’s Anti-Thurgood Marshall Campaign: Heather
- Apple official statement re: iPhone 4 complaints – So their answer is that … they were overrepresenting how good the signal was most of the time, and they're changing the software to show it more accurately (i.e., you'll see you already have crappy reception)? That's … lame. and not likely to make AT&T very happy.
- Use Scotch Tape or Nail Polish to Relieve an Itchy Mosquito Bite [MacGyver Tip] – May need to try this.
- Pythagorean – Cool.
- New Network Design Could Make the Internet 100 Times Faster – Woot!
- Church Office Failed to Act on Abuse Scandal – NYTimes.com – Lots of details here on bureaucratic infighting, neglect of responsibility, and, generally speaking, poor behavior on the part of ostensibly holy and divinely-inspired leaders whose primary interest seems to have been covering their organizational asses and making sure that nobody didn’t do anything without Rome’s permission and direction.
- First Look: Steven Spielberg-Produced Alien Invasion TV Series Falling Skies – Hmmm. This has possibilities. I might have to see if I can hit that session at the SDCC.
- Airplane! quiz – Boing Boing – 91% – not too shabby.

100% on the quiz. Which one did you miss?
Reason for the drinking problem (splash).
I had a 50/50 chance on that one. I guessed correctly. 🙂
