- Pop Quiz: Americans Flunk Test On Religion In Public Schools « The Wall of Separation – You can teach about religion in public, taxpayer-funded schools. You can teach about it as an historic element. You can teach about it as literature. You can even teach about it as sociology. You can teach about it, in and of itself, as an academic subject. What you cannot teach about it is as the Revealed Word of God, because that’s personal faith not an academic subject, and because I don’t want a teacher telling my kid what their opinion (as an authority figure) is about God. That’s not their business — it’s mine. (And you’d think folks who always get so upset about how it’s up to families to teach morals, not schools, are fine with the morals being taught are from their own Holy Book.)
- Tancredo Explains His Plan For Eliminating Medicaid And Other Programs: Starve The Government Of Tax Dollars – The idea of “starving the government” to cut programs is not new, but it’s no less despicable. Thanks for encouraging me to send another donation Hickenlooper’s way, Tom!

- McMahon’s millions and the minimums for the masses – If McMahon thinks the minimum wage should be reduced, is she willing to take a similar percentage income cut? It would affect her a lot less, of course, but I suspect she’d be outraged by the very idea. (Hey, there’s an idea — peg Congressional salaries to the Minimum Wage …)
- Dropping An Already-Thin Pretense, Cont’d – “For years, there’s been a half-hearted attempt to maintain a thin pretense about remaining ‘fair and balanced,’ but as the Republican Party grows more hysterical, its propaganda outlet and corporate benefactor no longer feel the need to even bother keeping up appearances.”

- UPDATE: Michigan Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell takes leave of absence – I guess that will give him plenty of time to work on his blog and hang out in front of Shirvell’s house. I am a big believer in the First Amendment — but when you take on a governmental role, especially working in a law enforcement capacity, it is difficult for some aspects of your private activities to not have an impact (perceived or otherwise) on your public duties. That may not be fair, but …
