While politeness might cause me to not take actions that unnecessarily cause offense, ultimately there is no "right" to not be offended, nor should there be. Dealing with offensive people and situations without pulling out a gun, or calling the police to do likewise, is a sign of emotional and cultural maturity.
While it's easy to point at the over-sensitive Muslims in this story, there are any number of Christians who are just as thin-skinned over their own sacred cows (or equivalent). And some of those groups have similarly sought to make "disrespect" of religion in general (and theirs in particular) illegal. #ddtb
