I was wondering when someone would begin to feel some religious compassion for those feeling, breathing, ensoulled insurance companies that might have their personal faiths shaken and God-given religious freedoms offended by having to offer plans that include contraception, or anything else that morally or religiously bothers them.
And so I'm pleased to see that the GOP is stepping up to that big plate by offering up an amendment that lets any employer or insurance company off the hook if a provided essential health benefit or preventive service is "contrary to the religious beliefs or moral convictions of the sponsor, issuer, or other entity offering the plan."
The martyrs of Aetna and Anthem will be able to sleep more easily tonight, after they've said their prayers. #ddtb

GOP Ups The Ante, Introduces Legislation To Allow Any Employer To Deny Any Preventive Health Service
Earlier today, in response to criticism from Catholic groups, the White House altered its regulation requiring employers and insurers to provide no-cost contraception coverage as part of their health …
Insurance companies have religious beliefs and moral convictions? And those would prevent them from providing contraception but allow them to let people die by denying life-saving treatment? What the heck kind of religion or morality does that?
@Avo – As an analog, consider the Catholic-owned hospital in (I believe) Arizona that ended up performing a therapeutic abortion to save the life of the mother involved. The hospital was sanctioned by their bishop and the sister who was the head of it was fired (as I recall).
There was never any question in my mind that this would happen if the President compromised with…how did Maddow put it? The men who stare at zygotes?
To be fair, they were on this course long before the question of Obama compromising ever came up. Though i love the phrase.
