Arctic sea ice extent blows through record low levels
As of this week, the amount of arctic sea ice extent (essentially the area covered by ice) has reached a record low, barreling through the previous low record in 2007. Note that this low point in 2007 happened on September 16 – we're hitting that point three weeks earlier in the year. There's still more melting to come.
