makes more sense than taxing the rich?
+Mark Phelan Yeah, I probably ought to have commented that it's unfortunate that so many public school things these days, from basic classroom supplies to the sorts of items that these grant applications are asking for, have to be handled through private donations.
+Dave Hill in new york city every public school my kid's ever been in comes with a list of about $100 worth of stuff your kid is to show up with.. such as pencils and paper..
+Mark Phelan Same out in the hinterlands, too. Yet, somehow, magically, when I was growing up, they actually supplied paper, glue, kleenex, pencils, and the like.
One of my sisters is a teacher. Any time a student needs to borrow a pencil or get some paper because they don't have any, they're able to get it from her because she spent her own money to make sure she has extra supplies. The school pays for none of it.
+Marty Shaw same for my wife. Even worse was the basic necessities she bought with her money because the school didn't, like snacks and food. So many of her special needs students would otherwise go hungry.
if nothing else it's so inefficient.. the school can't get a better price buying a 1,000 pencils for everyone, etc.. but pulling that thread leads to (DA-DA–DUUUM), "..full employment ..six and a half hours of work ..15 Euro rent per month.. all decisions are made by ..popular assembly ..no priests nor police.. socialist utopia of Marinaleda..": https://vimeo.com/89487871
+Mark Phelan what are you taking about? That's not a logic leap but a logic cosmic travel. Do you actually know proportionally how much you pay in taxes compared to income? Most people don't. Not to mention that to improve education budgets only takes congress to reprioritize the budget. How about *gasp* we take out cold war spending from the military budget and give it education? Which doesn't raise taxes at all. There are plenty of ideas here.
