Two notes:
1. Heard a brand new GOP excuse this week: that the presidential election is getting so nasty that it would be disrespectful of the office of Supreme Court justice to hold a confirmation hearing in the middle of such political smear campaigns and the like, so we should wait until next year when, one presumes, politics will return to puppies and unicorns.
2. The Judicial Crisis Network was founded as the Judicial Confirmation Network, with its stated mission to ensure that "the confirmation process for all judicial nominees is fair and that every nominee sent to the full senate receives an up or down vote." Of course, it was founded during the Bush Administration. Apparently they've changed their mind.
