Watching Rachel Maddow last night, she pointed out something … kind of weird: the last GOP presidential ticket to win an election that didn't have either a Bush family member or Richard Nixon in the #1 or #2 slot … was Herbert Hoover in 1928.
That seems weird to me. Does that seem weird to you?
At any rate, even that streak couldn't help Jeb! against the current anti-establishment wave (one that even Clinton is struggling against).
The epic nature of Jeb Bush’s failure
We’ve seen former frontrunners stumble, but we’ve never seen anything quite like Jeb Bush’s rise and fall. As failures go, this one is nothing short of epic.
Doesn't actually seem all that weird. It's not uncommon for VPs to later become president, so you're looking at a pretty easy way to get 12-16 years from one person. From there factor in that the Democrats are going to win some elections in there, so that spaces it out a bit. There was also the Ford presidency which was started by Nixon's resignation.
What actually seems weird is grouping Nixon with the Bushes. Their politics were fairly different, so combining them really just looks like a way to extend the date as far as you can. The requirement that they win an election is an easy way to deal with the Ford years in between. You are, however, technically correct, which as we all know is the best kind of correct.
what a load, its wasnt Donalds bullying it was the fact most Americans felt their patriotism betrayed by the Ol GOP and the Bush dynasty..Death and Debt and nothing to show for it except for the middle east in complete turmoil.
+Josh Brown I don't think the intent was to lump Nixon and the Bushes was about conflating their politics, as much as noting the dynastic nature of wining GOP politics for the last 80-odd years. It's a remarkable run, so I remarked on it.
+Damian DeLapp Jeb! was a very unfortunate campaigner in many ways, but the exchanges between him and Trump on the stage did nothing to help his image.
+Dave Hill ok so that's why he dropped out…
+Damian DeLapp Well, he dropped out because nobody was voting for him (and, presumably, nobody behind the scenes was willing any more to throw good money after bad).
