No, I haven't started the new job yet

I did call the background check company to see where the hang-up is, but didn't get any more significant info than off their status page: 5 of the 6 checks submitted have come back; the 6th, with a "public agency," is scheduled back on Friday, fergoshsakes.

The New Employer is sympathetic (and probably frustrated, too, but it's not effectively coming out of their paycheck), and has asked their HR folk to ask the background check folk to "expedite" things, but that doesn't seem to have done much good.

So I guess I will just "enjoy" the extra week of (unpaid) vacation, and finish up some things still outstanding, and practice my patience …

  1. +Harold Chester Given that it's been over two weeks, even counting the 4th, it's pretty goofy.

And, yes, frustrating — thought it does make it easier for Margie (who's having a long week) as I can transport around the Daughter to various things going on.

  2. Yeah, I have a friend with a "Muslim-sounding" name (not quoting, thank goodness) who is applying for a government job out here.

It may be a mere coincidence that the background check has taken more than two months and, if we're lucky, she'll get one month of paying work before she goes back to school in the fall.

  3. +Patrick Bick It's conceivable that the curse of "Dave Hill, International Man of Mystery" has resurfaced; my first and last name, as-is, have triggered flying watch list problems in the past (of the "have to check in at the ticket counter, not online" variety), but that all went away when my middle name was included i the application. Given that the background company definitely has my full name, I'd be … surprised, if that were the cause.

Aside from that, my life has been pretty boring.
