The official "Doctor Who" trailer is … promising

Sure, there's plenty of razzle-dazzle, but the fundamental theme of the new Doctor — who am I, am I a good person, what kind of messes have I left behind me — sound like a great direction for the character.

Surely the most surreal Doctor Who thing you will see today

Consensus seems to be that it is a modern parody of both "Doctor Who" and this particular sort/era of Japanese TV show. But it's … brilliantly done.  This one's for +Kay Hill, whose head may 'splode.

This "Doctor Who" Parody … well, It's Astounding

Normally I would dedicate Doctor stuff to +Kay Hill, but I think, for reasons that will become clear, that +Margie Kleerup most needs to see this.  Bravo, Hillywood, bravo.

Moffat on the Doctor’s 50th and how Capaldi will be different

I've run hot and cold on Steven Moffat's tenure on "Doctor Who" (not least of which because I keep having problem remembering how to spell either of the man's names), but reading through this article he penned on the 50th Anniversary Special, and how that then plays into his vision for Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor is both interesting and encouraging.

“The uncastable cast, the impossible brief, the unwritable script…”

Get ready for Doctor Who LEGO

Nothing announced yet, except that the licensing problems have apparently been resolved.

Since its beginning in 1963, the faces, the logo, and the monsters of Doctor Who have graced a myriad of items for sale to the public — from the Dalekmania toys of the 1960s, through series novelizations, and a huge number of Doctor Who comics and comic books (most notably by Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons), to board games, breakfast cereal, and toy sonic screwdrivers galore. If you want it…

A pleasant Valentine's Day evening

Kay was off seeing The LEGO Movie (which she recommends). Which left Margie and me at loose ends, meaning we could have a nomtastic pepper steak dinner, watching one of our favorites, "The Vicar of Dibley" …

… which in episode 2 stars (1994) Peter Capaldi (the Twelfth Doctor) and in episode 3 stars (as herself) Kylie Minogue (who guest starred on the Doctor Who Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned").

It's a small world (on the BBC).

Watching a “Vicar of Dibley” episode … with a guest character … played by … PETER CAPALDI?! Looking like Neil Gaiman? Wow. #doctorwho

That famous American TV show, "Doctor Who"

What if it had been an American show, with American actors (and still, for purposes of this thought experiment, mostly the same)?  Kind of fun …

The New (Albeit Unofficial) Who

I'm rarely a big enthusiast of fan-made videos, but, yeah, this would be a pretty darned cool main title.

Looking back at the historic Doctor Who title sequences, they've tended to be fairly abstract, and most have had an image of the current actor/regeneration.  The post-2005 added the element of the TARDIS traveling through space-time in some usually abstract fashion.  This video extends that concept quite nicely, in my opinion.

I would certainly expect a new title sequence when the first Capaldi episodes air, and possibly a new orchestration of the music (hopefully still by Murray Gold).

The Twelfth Doctor’s Costume

Hmmmm.

A bit more formal. A bit more severe. A bit more flashy. A bit less goofy.

Okay, I can dig it.  #doctorwho

The Doctor is no longer a "quirky young man"

And I'm very okay with that.

And, frankly, comparing Capaldi's Doctor to Tom Baker and Chris Eccleston is just what I want to hear. "Mad and dangerous and difficult" — okay, that sounds more like Pertwee, but that's not bad, either.

(Btw, the picture is of Capaldi in The Three Musketeers, not a Master-like facial do for the Doctor role.

The Ubiquity of "Doctor Who"

It's almost getting to seem more cool to not be into (or know anything about) "Doctor Who."  Not that I want to be part of that cool.

If you ever needed proof that Doctor Who has hit the mainstream in America…

Which still blows my mind. I grew up on the original series and finding another Whovian back then was a lot like what The Doctor feels like when bumping into a fellow Time Lord in the new series. One of the big attractions of Sci-Fi conventions was the very good probability of fellow fans you could talk to about the show being there. A couple of weeks back a good buddy, and fellow Whovian, tweeted an image of the cover of TV Guide that had a picture of Matt Smith and an article about the 50th anniversary episode. He said it was still weird seeing that in America and I have to agree. I love it, but it's still so weird.

Hiding behind the sofa

Well, we were all busy during Christmas, and away from TVs, and all that stuff.

So sometime tomorrow we need to figure out how to watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special, so I can actually look at the Internet without getting spoiled for it (good, bad, or indifferent).
