Updated INV data from Iron Vixen (from the “Weathering the Storm” INV (Tank) guide):
Interim test I5 resist numbers:
TI:30% to smashing/lethal (white SO is +6%)
Uy:5% to smashing/lethal, 10% to all other (non-psi) damage (white SO is +1% to S/L, +2% to all others)
R/El: 7.5% to Fire/Cold/Toxic (white SO is +1.5%)
R/En:7.5% to energy/negative energy (white SO is +1.5%)
Invinc now caps it’s +def bonus at 14 mobs in melee Statesman puts the bonus at 1.5% per mob, our tests show it close to 3.5% per mob.
Tough Hide is 5% def base to non-psi, non-toxic, non-AoEs.
“What are we supposed to use? Harsh language?”
Ugh! That doesn’t look good but, I’ll reserve my judgement until after I’ve gone back to test. I’m still reeling from the first time I took Bill to test and was taken to half hit points by three blue con Agents using nothing but machine guns (bullets that were doing 1pt live were doing 8pts on test)
I don’t remember but did R/El always give toxic protection?
R/El isn’t previously listed as providing Toxic.
Still, the numbers seem absurd. R/El, six-slotted with white SOs looks to provide, what, 12% resistance against Cold/Fire? Yeah, that’s helpful.
Rrg.
I’ll agree with “Rrg”, hence the mad rush for all the Invuln tanks to hit 50. I didn’t see Resist Physical Damage (a power most invulns shun) factored in anywhere. I wonder if it would make any difference to pick up if these changes go live?
I think the numbers on RPD were similar to R/El and R/En, and will be in I5, too. I.e., pretty close to useless for a huge expense.
What Liberty Bill said. My INV tank isn’t going to make it, but he’s gone from 27 to 33 in the last couple of weeks after about a month of disuse.
Current numbers on the boards (I think it’s the “Check my numbers please” thread) indicate that you can still cap S/L resistance without a defender, but you’ll need to 6 slot Unyielding and TI, and 5? slot RPD or go with the Toughness toggle to cap it. Ugh.
As for the rest of the stuff? Hoo boy.
Although the I5 changes were ostensibly made to prevent herding, the one power in the set that really makes it worthwhile to herd, Invincibility, has barely been touched. It has a cap of 14 minions to affect your +def and +acc, but considering the loss of all my other resistances, you can bet that I’ll be jumping around trying to get as many baddies around my tank as possible. It’s actually safer to rely on defense than it is resistance as an INV tank now.
2 ways to get back to the heavy resistances of the past: team with the right kind of defender (who can pretty much turn ANYBODY into a highly resistant quasi-tank) or run a semi-permaed Unstoppable (Think a bunch of recharge reducers and maybe 1 damage resist). And I don’t want to have to manually hit an egg timer each time I flip that switch in CoH. That crash is just nasty.
I use HeroStats as my “egg timer.” But, yeah, that’s going to be a serious management issue.
It’s tough. I understand the difficulty in trying to deal with the game mechanics, but, damn, in the comic books, nobody but Hour Man has to keep glancing down to see when his power runs out. I don’t think it’s appropriate for INV tanks to never worry about dying, but I also don’t think it’s appropriate for them to always be worried about it.
We’ll have to see how it works out with Velvet. Don’t dare to go to Test with her, to be honest.
On the Unstoppable crash:
I’m not sure how much this will help, but a little trick that -sometimes- works is, if you have Conserve Energy, hit it when you have about a minute left until the crash (yes, I use a timer). I’ve done it when running only Unyielding, TI, and Invincibility and my end usage was low enough as to not shut down my toggles. Like I said, you really can’t do this until you get to your Epics but it could be helpful in trying to run a semi-perma Unstoppable build.
I’ve tried Herostats, but my machine is too slow to run that AND CoH effectively. Thanks to the feds cutting back Pell Grants AND my incoming rising from poverty level to slightly above poverty level last year, I’m having to shelve any new hardware purchases this year. (I’m not bitter).
And I will indeed be taking Conserve Power if and when I get to my EPPs.
And I forgot to praise Dave for his use of the Aliens quote in the original post. Great movie, and great context for INV tankers about to get squished by the alien nerf hive. Good times. Good times.
HeroStats is indeed a resource problem. I’m fortunate it works on my machine (and I often end up running it so that Margie can keep track of stuff, since it impacts her system so badly).
When you run with a guy who does Invis, and a gal who does Bubbles, having a timer is a Good Thing. 🙂
Glad you liked quote, too.
I do think it will all work out in the end, but with a fair amount of pain in the interim.
