Apparently some folk in Israel — to which the American Family Association was paying for a trip by Reince Priebus and a large number of Republican National Committee members — got a bit out of sorts when they discovered that the AFA's public face and "Director of Issue Analysis" was Bryan Fischer, who's suggested, among other things, that nobody in the US has any religious freedom rights except Christians, and that Hitler's Holocaust was orchestrated by gays.
Now, Bryan's been saying that sort of stuff for years[1], with nary a boo from his AFA management. And Fischer's unique view of the First Amendment[1] and WW2 history[2] (among many other things) certainly didn't stop Rick Perry or Bobby Jindal from headlining big prayer rallies sponsored by the AFA.
But apparently this was getting just a wee bit high profile for the AFA who have fired Fischer from his official role at the AFA. Not for something new he's done, or some zany-crazy thing he's said this week on his radio, TV, or print commentary — but for comments he's made years ago, but which didn't warrant firing until all of a sudden the Republican National Committee was getting embarrassed over it (and were maybe facing the prospect of having to stand next to the gent while some Jewish reporters were asking uncomfortable questions about Jewish religious freedom in the US, or who's to blame for the Holocaust).
It's almost enough to make me feel a bit sorry for Mr. Fischer, thrown under the bus this way. Almost.
(Remind me to mention this next time people are railing over left-wing political correctness.)

American Family Association fires Bryan Fischer ahead of RNC trip to Israel
Debra Nussbaum Cohen, reporter for Haaretz, talks with Rachel Maddow about the American Family Association firing Bryan Fisher over remarks about Hitler and homosexuality, ahead of paying to fly 60 members of the Republican National Committee to Israel.
It's worth noting Fischer still has his radio show for the AFA. However, all of his blogs at the AFA site seem to have vanished in a puff of inky black smoke.
When you're too crazy for the AFA you've got big problems.
I stand corrected: the AFA blog site has been completely rejiggred, so old links all 404, but the top story at the AFA's site, dated tomorrow, is bylined by Fischer (http://www.afa.net/the-stand/government/justice-roy-moore-strikes-a-major-blow-against-judicial-tyranny/).
+Les Jenkins The problem is, he's not "too crazy for the AFA" — he's just an embarrassment for them (or, more specifically, the GOP). He's still delivering radio shows for them (that should be interesting the first one out).
Again, this isn't anything new. Bryan's been spewing this stuff for years. It's just suddenly someone other than Those Damned American Liberals got offended by it.
